My Story With SketchUp

Jonathan Ignas

I’m Jonathan Ignas, a B.S. Architecture student. And this is my story with SketchUp.

I started using SketchUp in 2009 (3 year ago). The version I used that time was SketchUp 6. In school, COMED (Computer education) was the part of our curriculum where we learned 2D to 3D presentations. And that was the time when I started to explore with SketchUp. I find it an easy to use that means user-friendly application for a newbie like me. By the reading the manual for SketchUp, the first object that I modeled is a simple bungalow house. Since then I am enjoying doing 3d models using SketchUp.

Curiosity led me to continuous learning and experimenting with the software. It helps me a lot in my architectural visualizations. I find SketchUp to be more powerful together with the use of some plug-ins (rendering engine) like Kerkythea, Podium, Vray for SketchUp, etc. In the first year of my experience of using SketchUp, Podium was my greatest weapon in rendering then. And most of my presentations were rendered using this engine. After one year, I started to study how to use Vray for SketchUp. I realized SketchUp plus Vray for SketchUp equals great works. SketchUp is a simple but easy to use software that everyone can enjoy.

Now, I still try to discover deeper about sketchup by reading internet forums, joining group and reading magazines like Sketchup ur Space which give new information, latest trends and features different SketchUp artist in the world.

I feel happy and satisfied with my models every time I used SketchUp. I can say now that I can’t live without it. More power SketchUp!!
