Hartela Standardizes on Vico Software for Virtual Construction Vico Software, the leader in 5D Virtual Construction(TM), is pleased to announce that Hartela Corporation, the Finnish construction innovator, will deploy 260 licenses of Vico Office for use on new construction projects. Hartela invests widely in real estate in Finland and develops suitable properties according to market conditions. In order to determine the feasibility for their projects, Hartela requires real-time estimates as early as possible. Vico Office will allow the team to evolve the design and the estimate at the same time -- making it clear which type of project is most profitable for that area. Improving production control and cost control on these projects are other important benefits for Hartela. The Hartela Team first realized the immense opportunity for real-time cost and production control during their first 5D project -- the Skanssi Center -- a 150 million euro retail center project in Turku, Finland. Jukka Maekinen, Vice President of Production at Hartela, stated, "Production control charts were a very useful tool in this project. We were able to control project costs in the field by managing to the schedule and were able to recognize the main risks of the project very early in the process by performing schedule risk analysis. The project was handed over on-time and within budget and planned resource loading was close to actual for critical trades. Our employees are committed to these best practices and working toward the profitability of each project, and so we have invested in Vico Office to make this possible." Hartela has been developing a knowledgebase of construction means and methods since the 1980s. When combined with Vico's Standard 5D Warehouse, a collection of thousands of BIM model elements and their own compilation of building components, Hartela's estimating team will be able to create cost estimates in a fraction of the time. Having this information early will speed data-driven decisions -- so the design and construction teams can optimize the program, the scope, and the project profitability. The other important aspect of building production is cost controlling on-site. This is achieved by comparing the actual work put in place to the baseline schedule and making course corrections in real-time. It is Hartela's goal that their foremen and superintendents will use Vico Office to collect this site productivity data and analyze it in terms of quantities by location. These location-based management principles have been part of Hartela's success since 2004. Mr. Maekinen reiterated, "This enterprise-wide rollout allows Hartela employees to quickly assess the schedule and cost impact of design options. The team can also quickly compare past project data, view progress on current projects, and create powerful construction management reports. This keeps everyone focused on project profitability and how they can contribute to successful projects." "More and more, our customers are asking for intelligent workflows which combine their firm's intellectual property, cutting edge virtual construction best practices, computational power, and integration to ERP systems," remarked Mark Sawyer, CEO and President at Vico Software. "This means expanding the concept of a BIM Department into a BIM Enterprise. We are excited to be working closely with Hartela to make this happen." If you agree with Hartela's approach to powerful construction cost and schedule analytics, we invite you to try Vico Office in our Structured Evaluation Program. About Vico Office Vico Office is the first purpose-built construction management software that allows users to "plug in" the BIM authoring application of their choice and then perform a constructability analysis, location-based quantity takeoff, a model-based schedule, model-based estimate, and on-site production control, all in an integrated workflow. About Vico Software Vico Software, Inc. provides software and services to the commercial construction industry. Building owners, general contractors, and construction managers use our software and our services to reduce risk, manage costs, and optimize schedules on complex building projects. Vico's 5D Virtual Construction solutions pioneered the category of BIM for Construction, and they remain the industry's most integrated approach to coordination, quantity takeoff, cost estimation, project scheduling, and production control. The new Vico Office product suite continues this tradition, making it possible to leverage many important BIM file formats such as ArchiCAD, Revit, Tekla, CAD-Duct, IFC, 3D DWG, and even SketchUp. The benefits of our solutions and services have been proven on hundreds of building projects to date totaling more than $72 billion in construction worldwide.
